Last week we discovered the wonders of KIVA, and were able to micro-lend to women or groups of women who needed small loans. This week we discovered an organization with an entirely new form of lending. The way this organization works is that it take loans, but instead of directly giving this money to those in need, it uses the money to give people animals! Through an organization appropriately named Heifer, one can make monetary donations that pay for some form of livestock to give to a person or persons. This sustainable form of lending allows people to profit off of their animals, breed their animals, and continue to improve their life quality. In addition, if a person breed his/her goats, for example, he/she can then give one of the offspring to another member of the town or village, thus helping the entire community. We are currently in the process of planning a fundraiser that will generate profits to contribute to this great cause. Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks!
