The MAPS first annual winter cupcake sale ended yesterday. We sold over 200 cute and delicious cupcakes and raised a total of $327.40! We will use this money to fund women through KIVA, our micro-lending program. Cupcakes were $1.50 each, and many of you donated your change to help women move toward financial independence. That’s where that 40 cents came from :).
In honor of Somaly Mam and the great work she’s doing for victims of slavery in Cambodia, we used our money to make 10 $25 loans to 10 Cambodian women. These women will use the money to start and expand their businesses. Over time, they will pay us back so we can use it to make more loans. It was exhilarating to scroll through the Kiva website and be able to help so many women!
More about the sale:
The sale lasted for 6 days.
We would ice the cupcakes that morning, which turned out to be great advertising!
During lunch, we’d put about 30 on our table, and within ten minutes, we were usually sold out! The cupcakes were fun to make and exciting to sell.
We will definitely do this again later this year and next year with even more cupcakes! Thanks to all our helpers and everyone who participated in our program, especially Ms. Donna Daigle, who supported us through thick and thin!
Together, we made a difference in the lives of 10 Cambodian women! It feels awesome!
