That night, we attended the Woman of Distinction Award, presented to Nannerl O. Keohane, Ph.D. who is the former president of Wellesley College and of Duke University.
“Dr. Keohane writes and teaches in political philosophy, leadership, and feminist theory, with an emphasis on gender issues and the role of institutions, law, and public policy in creating—or obstructing—opportunities for women around the world” (Miss Hall’s School). The topic of Keohane’s keynote speech was leadership and the role that it has played in her life. She discussed her tenure as the president of Wellesley College as a learning experience where she had made mistakes that eventually led to a successful transition to the president of Duke University, a coeducational school.
Both the Philanthropic Round Table and the Woman of Distinction Award gave the MAPS members an experience that we will cherish for the years to come.
