An inspirational movie called Girl Rising is premiering tonight at Miss Hall’s. The students at our school were a little confused about what this movie is about and if it was interesting or not. We watched a trailer for the movie during Morning Meeting last Friday. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJsvklXhYaE
This inspirational movie follows the stories of nine girls who try to acquire an education in a society that creates obstacles for them to do so. The producers of this film were trying to create a fan base that did not follow the traditional ways of theater distribution but instead social media. Girl Rising has 245,000+ fans on Facebook, 500 screenings have been requested worldwide and 32,000 tickets have been pre-reserved. It is great to know that we, the Miss Hall’s girls, will be joining in a world wide premiere of a groundbreaking movie tonight. The amazing aspect about this movie is that the producers did not want to only show it in theaters and make revenue. Instead they wanted to touch an audience that will care about this from the beginning. This movie, for MAPS, is extremely touching. We work to create awareness not only throughout our community but worldwide. We as a group watched Half the Sky, which has a similar message to Girl Rising. It is eye opening to watch girls struggle for something that we take advantage of every day.
We wish that everyone has a chance to watch this amazing movie and reflect on the strength that these nine girls had to acquire.Though they were scared at times, they found their own voice and rose above the obstacles standing in their way.
