MAPS has decided to take part in pledging to fund a Kickstarter business!
Kickstarter is a new and trending website that helps fund individual projects and businesses. It serves as a central location for entrepreneurs from all over the country to help each other and receive financial donations from people who are interested in their ideas. Since their launch in 2009, “more than 3.7 million people have pledged over $546 million, funding more than 38,000 creative projects.” To learn more, visit http://www.kickstarter.com/hello?ref=nav.
As MAPS has been aiming to fund more locally through micro grants to local Horizons sites, we see Kickstarter as an opportunity to continue funding local entrepreneurs. We found a business that caught our interest, so we decided to invest. Hosta Hill, a small, locally-run farm and food business located in West Stockbridge, MA is all about harvesting food sustainably and humanely and working with other like-minded people in the community. Hosta makes delicious fermented vegetable products and tempeh but are in need of a large commercial kitchen to expand their business. Right now, their products are in high demand but they are only able to sell at the local farmer’s market, and therefore they cannot reach a more sizable cliental as they would like. Maddie and Abe, the charismatic duo behind this veggie madness, have a strong work ethic and are determined to grow their business. With OUR help (yes that’s MAPS and YOU), we are not only helping out Hosta Hill, but also supporting sustainable farming and local food consumption.
Kickstarter is a great way for Maddie and Abe to fundraise, but if they do not reach their pledging goal of $13,000 by Tuesday, April 16th at 6:18pm EDT, then they do not receive any money at all. MAPS has pledged to donate $250 to Hosta Hill and we’re hoping you will help out too. Let’s get their business running!
