About Mira’s Alliance for Philanthropic Sustainability
Created in 2010, MAPS is an organization at Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts that aims to educate and fundraise in the Miss Hall’s School community and around the world for sustainable philanthropy through micro-lending, micro-grants, and contributions to similar organizations.
MAPS is part of the Miss Hall’s Horizons program, which is a community service program at Miss Hall’s where girls volunteer once a week at different local businesses and non-profits in the Berkshires. MAPS consists of 7 students, Petty Chen’12, Morgan Wagner’12, Susan Cai’13, Trudy Hall’13, Kyanna Joseph’13, Zia O’Neill’13, and Joy Watts’13, led by Anne Rubin. We meet once a week to come up with ways to better the world in which we live.
One of our main goals is to promote micro-lending. We have already given out several small loans to women across the globe, and these loans help women improve their businesses and daily lives. As MAPS is a non-profit group, we hold fundraisers to make a profit—like our recent cupcake fundraiser, where we sold delicious, handmade cupcakes, which became very popular throughout the school.
MAPS has developed a micro-grant program, which will benefit the school’s Horizons program. We will annually give out $75 loans to three different Horizon’s sites. This way MAPS can also contribute to the community on a more local level.
Stay tuned to see where we will go in the future!
